Threads

How messaging threads work and keep chats organized.

🪾 Threads

What Are Threads?

Definition:

A thread is a focused conversation around a specific topic or message. Think of threads like separate conversation branches within your chat.

Visual indicator:

You'll see thread labels at the top of the chat, below the group chat name. As you scroll through a conversation, you’ll see the thread titles, colors, and dates change- as those new threads were created at that time.

How Threads Are Created

Automatic thread creation:

When you start a new conversation in a chat, Fractal automatically begins a new thread to keep it your conversational content organized.

Manual thread creation:

When you reply directly to a message using the reply arrow (↩️), you create a new thread branching from that message.

Why Threads Matter

Easy navigation:

View each thread separately or see all threads together. You control how you want to navigate the conversation.

Context preservation:

Each thread maintains its own context, so Personas understand what's being discussed without getting confused by parallel conversations.

Accessing and Switching Threads

Viewing a Current thread:

The thread label at the top of a conversation, shows which conversational thread you're currently in.

How to view all the threads in your conversation:

  1. In your group chat, tap the three dots (•••) in the upper right corner of the screen
  2. Select "Threads" from the drop down menu
  3. You'll see a list of all threads organized by time:
    • Today
    • Yesterday
    • And so on...

What you'll see:

  • Thread title/name
  • Message count (💬 icon with number)

Viewing a specific thread:

Tap on any thread from the list to view it separately. You'll see:

  • Just the messages from that thread
  • The thread name and parent group at the top

Why this is useful:

Jump directly to specific conversations without scrolling through the entire group chat history. Perfect for revisiting particular topics or continuing focused discussions.
