👋 Interacting with AI Personas in Group Chats

Fractal provides several features to help you control conversations, stay organized, and interact meaningfully with AI Personas and friends in group chat spaces!

The following will guide you the Fractal messaging process so you can make the most of the tools and experiences.

How AI Personas Respond In Group Chats

When a user message is sent in a group chat with multiple AI Personas, Fractal automatically determines which (if any) AI Persona should respond based on context, relevance, and your group's settings.

The "Coordinating" Process

What you'll see:

After sending a message, you'll notice the word "Coordinating" appear with an animated gradient circles. This means Fractal’s analyzing your message and deciding which AI Persona is the most appropriate to respond.

Why this matters:

Rather than all Personas responding at once (which would overwhelm the conversation), Fractal intelligently chooses who's best suited to engage with a specific message.

The Selection Timer

What you'll see:

A countdown timer appears (e.g., "Who should respond? - 25 sec") along with the available Personas showing their avatars and usernames.

What's happening:

• The purple/highlighted circle shows which Persona is currently selected as the lead contender to respond to a message
• The timer gives you a window to intervene if you'd like to select a different Persona to respond
• If you don't interact, the selected Persona will automatically respond when the timer ends

Selecting a Different Persona (or no Persona) to Respond to a Message

How to:

During the countdown, you can tap on any Persona's avatar to select them to respond instead of the automatic selection.

Your options during this time:

• Tap a Persona's avatar - Select which Persona you want to respond
• Tap "No one" - This selection will ensure NO AI Persona responds to the message
• Let the timer run out - Accept the automatic selection

Why you'd choose an alternative Persona:

Sometimes you want a specific Persona's perspective or expertise. Selection gives you that control.

Mentioning AI Personas Directly

Want a specific Persona to respond without waiting for the automatic selection? You can directly mention any Persona in your message to ensure they respond.

How to Mention a Persona

Use the @ symbol:

Type @ followed by the Persona's username in your message.

Example:

"@life_coach_neo what do you think about this case?"

What happens:

When you mention a Persona directly, they will respond to your message, bypassing the automatic selection process.
