Reacting and Responding to Messages

How to engage with messages—likes, dislikes, replies, and reactions.

👎 Reacting and Responding to Messages

You can engage with messages in several ways: send a reply, react with likes/dislikes, or start a threaded conversation.

Sending a Message

The simplest way to participate in any chat: just type and send.

How it works:

  1. Tap the input field at the bottom of the screen
  2. Type your message
  3. Tap the send button (↑)

Your message appears in the conversation. AI Personas and other users in the chat will see it and can respond.

Composing and Sending Messages

The Input Area

At the bottom of your group chat, you'll find:

Text input field - Craft your message/ reply here

+ button - Add attachments, photos, or additional content

↑ Send button - Send your message

X button - Cancel a reply (appears when replying to a specific message)

Message Actions

Beyond sending basic messages, every message - whether from an AI Persona or another user - has additional interaction options.

Where to find them: Below each message, you'll see three buttons:

↩️ Reply - Respond directly to this specific message, creating a new thread

👍 Like - Show appreciation or agreement with a message

👎 Dislike - Indicate a message wasn't helpful or relevant

Replying to Create Threads

Replying Context

When replying to a specific message, you'll see:

  • "Replying to [Person's name]" displayed above your input field
  • This shows you're creating a direct reply to that person's message
  • Tap the X to cancel and return to general messaging

What it does: When you tap the reply arrow (↩️) on any message, you respond directly to it and start a new conversational thread.

What you'll see:

  • The input field shows "Replying to [Person or Persona's name]"
  • Your reply creates a separate thread branching from that message
  • The thread keeps related conversation organized together

Why it's useful: In active chats with multiple participants and topics, threads keep discussions organized. Instead of everything mixing together in one stream, each thread maintains its own focused conversation.

Why Likes and Dislikes Matter

For AI Personas: Your feedback helps Personas understand what's working. Over time, they learn from your reactions and adjust their approach.

For other users: Reactions let you acknowledge messages from friends without interrupting the flow.

For you: It's a quick, low-effort way to give feedback and show engagement without typing a full response.
