Adjusting Advanced Settings: Memories and Group Interactions
Managing Persona memory and relationship dynamics in groups.
🔨 Adjusting Advanced Settings: Memories and Group Interactions
Beyond the main Persona Coordination settings, there are two additional tools for fine-tuning your group chat experience. Both features have automatic defaults, so you don't need to adjust them unless you want to customize further.
Where to Find These Settings
- Open your group chat
- Tap the group name at the top OR tap the three dots (•••) in the upper right
- "Persona Interactions"
- At the top, you'll see:
- "Group Persona Interactions"
- "View Memories"
Group Persona Interactions
What this is:
Technical controls for how Personas respond in the group - things like response frequency, selection methods, and reply behavior.
Why use it:
These settings are already configured with smart defaults. Adjust them only if you want more control over when and how Personas respond.
Settings You Can Adjust:
Updates
Automatic Updates
Keeps Persona settings updated automatically as Fractal improves.
- Default: On
- Turn it off: If you want manual control over updates
Reply Behavior
Always Reply to Humans
Determines if Personas should respond to every human message.
- Default: On (Personas respond to all human messages)
- Turn it off: If you want Personas to be more selective
Can Reply to other Personas
Allows Personas to respond to each other's messages.
- Default: On (enables Persona-to-Persona conversations)
- Turn it off: If you only want Personas responding to humans
Max Messages
Limits how many times Personas can respond to each other consecutively in a single conversation thread before a human needs to participate.
- Default: 1 message
- Adjust with +/- buttons: Increase to allow longer Persona-to-Persona exchanges, or decrease to keep conversations tighter
- Why this matters: Prevents Personas from having extended back-and-forth conversations without human input (unless that’s what you want!)
Prioritize Mentions
When someone mentions a specific Persona, should that Persona respond regardless of other settings?
- Default: On (mentioned Personas always respond)
- Turn it off: If you want mentions to be treated like any other message
Personas don't respond when a single human is mentioned
Controls whether Personas should hold back when only one specific human is mentioned.
- Default: Off (Personas can respond even when a human is mentioned)
- Turn it on: If you want Personas to stay quiet when a human is directly addressed
Single Mentions do not skip human selection
Determines whether mentioning a Persona bypasses the human voting process.
- Default: Off (mentions skip the voting process)
- Turn it on: If you want mentions to still go through human selection
Automatic Selection
Persona Selection Strategy
Determines how Fractal chooses which Persona responds to a message.
- Default: Intelligent (Fractal automatically picks the most relevant Persona)
- Strategy options:
- Intelligent - Fractal automatically selects the most relevant Persona based on context
- Mentions Only - Only Personas that are specifically mentioned will respond
- Random - A random Persona is selected to respond
- Adjust if: You want to control who responds differently
Human Selection
Wait for Human Selection
Lets group members vote on which Persona should respond to each message.
- Default: Off (Personas respond automatically)
- Turn it on: If you want the group to choose who responds
- Set timeout: How long to wait for votes (5 seconds to 5 minutes)
- Voting Style options:
- First Vote Decides - The first person to vote determines which Persona responds
- Majority - The Persona with the most votes responds
Human Selection not required
Determines whether human voting is mandatory or optional.
- Default: Off (voting is optional when enabled)
- Turn it on: If you want to require voting for every message
Memories (View Memories)
About Memories:
Memories are pieces of information that AI Personas automatically remember about your conversation, group, and its members. Think of it like giving Personas a notebook where they jot down important things from your conversations.
Why memories matter:
Without memories, Personas only know what's in the current conversation. With memories, they can recall details from weeks or months ago - making interactions feel more personal and contextually aware over time.
What Personas remember:
- Important facts about group members (preferences, interests, goals)
- Significant events or milestones that happened in the group
- Ongoing projects or topics the group cares about
- Relationship dynamics and how members interact
- Decisions the group has made
- Personal details that help Personas engage more meaningfully
How memories are created:
Completely automatically. As your group chats, Personas notice important information and store it as memories. You don't need to do anything - they're paying attention and remembering naturally.
Managing Memories
Deleting memories:
If a memory is outdated, inaccurate, etc.:
- Find the memory in the list
- Tap the trash icon next to it
- The memory is permanently deleted - Personas will no longer reference this information
Important to know:
- You cannot manually add memories - they're created automatically through conversations
- Memories are specific to this group/ conversation - they don't carry over to other chats
