The following is a step by step guide to create your very own, AI Persona.

Designing Your Persona's Profile

Your Persona's profile is their public face – and what others will see first.

Display Name

This is your Persona's name – their primary identifier.

Tips:

Choose something that fits their personality or role
Can be a real name, fictional name, or descriptive title

Examples: "Maya," "Tech Wizard," "Chef Antonio," "The Mindful Mentor"

Username

Your Persona's unique handle. This is how others find and mention them in Fractal.

Requirements:

Letters, numbers, and underscores only
No spaces or special characters

Tips:

Keep it simple and related to the display name
Use underscores for readability if needed

Examples: @maya_smiles, @tech_wiz, @chef_antonio, @mindful_mentor

Bio

A brief introduction written from you or your Persona's perspective (first person). This appears on their profile.

Tips:

2-4 sentences, highlighting key traits, personality, or what they offer
Make it inviting and engaging

Example:

"I'm Maya, your brainstorming partner who loves exploring ideas and finding unique solutions. I'm here to help you think outside the box, ask the right questions, and turn your creative visions into reality. Let's create something amazing together!"

Profile Picture

A visual representation of your Persona.

How to Add:

Tap the profile picture placeholder
Upload from your device, or take a photo

Cover Photo

A backdrop image for your Persona's profile that adds visual personality.

Persona Visibility: Public vs Private

Public Personas:

Discoverable by username search on Fractal
Can be shared with anyone

Private Personas:

Only visible to you and people you explicitly share them with
Keep your custom creations to yourself, if that’s what you desire

You can always change your mind – switch between public and private anytime based on your needs, via the Personas Profile page:

Open the Persona's profile
Select "Edit"
Scroll down to "Tags & Visibility"
Tap "Change to Private" or "Change to Public" to switch
Tap "Save Changes" at the bottom

Selecting Your Persona's Language Model

These settings determine which AI technology powers your Persona and how variable their responses will be.

AI Language Model

The language model (LLM) is the AI technology that powers your Persona's ability to understand and respond – essentially their "brain."

What You Need to Know:

Different models offer different capabilities
Your subscription tier determines which models you can access
More advanced models = more sophisticated responses

Language Model Type

This shapes your Persona's overall approach to conversation.

Character

Best for: Role-playing, immersive experiences, fictional personas
Stays true to a specific character identity

Assistant

Best for: Helpful tasks, advice, information, productivity
Prioritizes being informative and useful

Response Temperature

Controls how creative vs. predictable your Persona's responses are.

Consistent

Reliable, straightforward, focused responses
Best for: Professional advisors, tutors, informational Personas

Balanced

Mix of reliability and creativity
Best for: Most general-purpose Personas

Creative

Imaginative, surprising, unique responses
Best for: Creative companions, storytellers, brainstorming partners

Defining a Personas Core Behavior

This is where your Persona truly comes to life!

Title

A short phrase that captures your Persona's role or purpose. This helps to quickly define what your Persona offers.

Tips:

Keep it to 1-5 words
Be descriptive and specific
Focus on their value or role

Examples:

"Creative Writing Partner"
"Wellness & Mindfulness Guide"
"Business Strategy Advisor"
"The Angel on Your Shoulder"
"Womens Fitness Coach"

Relationship Dynamic

This defines how you would relate to your Persona – the nature of your connection.

Available Options: Select from the available options, or create your own!

What This Does: The relationship dynamic sets the tone for how your Persona interacts – are they a supportive friend to you? Your professional advisor?

Tips:

Choose a dynamic that matches your Persona's purpose
You can select a few if they fit different roles- but less is more
Don't overthink it – go with what feels right

Examples:

A fitness Persona might be: Personal Trainer, Fitness Advisor

Personality Traits

These are the characteristics that make your Persona unique and memorable.

How It Works:

Choose from predefined traits, or create your own custom ones
Select 4-10 traits for a well-rounded personality

Tips:

Mix complementary traits for depth (e.g., "Witty and Empathetic")
Think about how you want conversations to feel

Example Combinations:

For a business advisor:

Analytical, Direct, Strategic, Professional, Insightful

Areas of Expertise

What specific knowledge, skills, or topics does your Persona excel in?

How to Define:

Describe 3-6 areas where your Persona shines
Each area can be a phrase or sentence
Be as specific or broad as fits your Persona's purpose

Tips:

For specialized Personas, be very specific
For more general Personas, avoid being overly specific and include variety

Examples:

Creative writer:

"Helping with character development and story arcs"
"Overcoming writer's block"
"World-building for fiction"

About

A deeper description of your Persona's identity or background. This helps define who they are beyond just what they do.

What to Include:

Background or origin story
Core values or beliefs
Interests and passions

Example:

"As a creative soul who's explored every corner of artistic expression, Sol, brings a unique blend of imagination and practical know-how to every conversation. Sol believes in the theory that the best ideas come from playful experimentation, and they here to help others break through creative blocks and discover new possibilities. There's never a dull moment with Sol."

Objectives

What does your Persona aim to accomplish in conversations? These are their goals and purposes.

How to Set Objectives:

Define 2-7 key goals for your Persona (if they have any)
Each objective should be a sentence or two
Be specific about what you want them to achieve

Important: The more specific your objectives are, the more your Persona will focus on those exact actions across your conversations. If you want more fluid, natural conversations that adapt to different situations, keep objectives broader and more flexible.

Tips:

For specialized, task-focused Personas: Be detailed and specific about their objectives
For general, conversational Personas: Keep objectives flexible to allow natural flow
Balance guidance with flexibility based on your needs

Examples:

Specific objective (task-focused):

"Help me create a daily meditation practice by providing 5-minute guided sessions each morning based off several unique questions you ask"

Flexible objective (conversational flow):

"Offer perspective and wisdom while keeping conversations engaging and dynamic"

Balanced objectives (structured but adaptable):

"Break down complex challenges into clear, actionable steps when needed"

Rules

Guidelines for how your Persona should behave – their dos and don'ts.

What Rules Do:

Set boundaries for your Persona's behavior
Define how they should interact in different situations

Tips:

Include 2-5 key rules
Be clear about what they should DO or should NOT do
Rules can address: conversation style, topics or habits to avoid, decision-making approach, etc.

Examples:

Conversation rules:

"When offering opinions, do so gently – more like sharing perspectives than giving directives"

Group chat rules:

"Do not dominate the conversation, instead be a gracious facilitator.”

Approach rules:

"Do offer new perspectives through stories or metaphors that feel enlightening, never patronizing"

Communication Style

How your Persona expresses themselves – their voice and tone.

Available Style Options: Select from predefined styles or create your own.

What This Does: Communication style shapes the way your Persona phrases responses, from word choice to sentence structure to overall tone.

Example Style Combinations:

Friend companion:

Casual, Witty, Warm, Conversational, Genuine

Create Persona

Once you've filled out all the required fields for your Persona, you're ready to bring them to life!

How to Finalize Your Persona:

Make sure all required fields (marked with *) are completed
Tap the "Create Persona" button at the bottom of the screen

What Happens Next:

Your Persona is instantly created and saved
A direct message conversation automatically opens between you and your new Persona
- You can start chatting with them immediately to test how they respond
Your Persona will now appears in the "My Personas" section of the AI Personas tab 🌀

From here, you can:

Continue your conversation to see how they interact
Edit their behavior if you want to make adjustments
Share them with friends (do this by selecting “Share Persona” on the Personas profile
Add them to group chats

After Creating Your Persona

Test and Refine AI Persona

Once you've created your Persona:

Start a conversation with them (or continue the one that opened automatically)
See how they respond
Edit your Personas behaviors if needed, and refine until they feel right
